Vickie Bruno!

Vickie Bruno has been with our class for the past two weeks and I have enjoyed her immensely! I have always found sign language so fascinating, and have always wanted to learn more.

The first week Vickie was here she told us about the history of sign language and the main university for sign language where she went. We also talked about sign language today, and the view of it today.  We learned how to sign Hello, How are you? I'm fine. What's your name? My name is Sarah. I had a little of sign language in highschool and surprisinly I still remember the alphabet! I really think its a way to remember the alpabet. We also briefly talked about what some causes are from a hearing loss.

The second week with Vickie was very interesting as well! We went more into the reasons people become hard of hearing but I learned that 40% of the time, they do not know what caused the loss! We also listened to a tape of how a person hears hard of hearing. It ranged from 125-800 of frequency and 0-110 in loudness or decibels. It was very very interesting. I couldn't hear anything! We also did a quiz where a person was saying words and we had to write down what we heard. We had two tries and there were 10 words. The first try, I didnt get any of them right. The second try I got six right. Pretty crazy. We also learned colors, emotions and numbers. And next week we were going to look into having a sign language name! I'm not going to be there though so hopefully I can do it later on.
