Author Biography

J.K. Rowling

Although this author may not seem very creative, I love her Harry Potter series. She is a British write and was born on July 31st, 1965 in Bristol, England.

Her name is Joanne Kathleen and she has one younger sister name Di.

She has been writing since she was 5 years old, her first story was called “Rabbit”.

At the age of 9 she moved to Tutshill where she went to school and thought of herself as a shy, freckle, and no natural ability girl but loved to read literature.

When she was fifteen years old her mother was diagnosed with cancer and a few laters, died; which took a lot out of Rowling.

She graduated from Wyedean Comprehensive, and she attended Exeter University where she was going to be a bilingual secretary, but knew it wasn’t right for her.

At the age of 26 she moved to Portugal to be an English teacher, and this is when she started writing a story about a wizard. She says the idea of Harry Potter just popped into her mind one day while on a very long train ride.

During this time she got married and had a girl name Jessica in 1994. Divorce was shortly afterwards, and her and Jessica moved to Edinburgh Scotland.

There she finished her “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” and published it and received 4,000. When the US published this book in 1998 and changed the name is when her career really boomed and she could quit teaching and just write.

The continuing two sequels were published in 1999. By 2000 the books were translated into thirty five languages and have sold over 30 million copies.

She has finished her Harry Potter series but plans to write a Harry Potter lexicon of wizard words and spells.

J.K.Rowling currently lives in Scotland, on the banks of the river Tay, with her 2nd husband Neil Murray; J.K.Rowling has 3 children, 2 with husband Neil and she will continue writing children’s literature because it is what she loves.
